Tips For Packing Up Your Bedroom

Posted on 29/07/2014

If there is one room that people prefer to pack themselves, rather than using a moving firm, it is their bedroom. As not only is this your own private space, it also tends to hold your most personal belongings. Everything from underwear to expensive jewellery is homed here and more often than not you would rather not have moving men rummaging through your things. So in the interest of keeping your privacy intact and your moving day stress-free, why not take note of the handy packing tips for your bedroom items below. ClothesThere are many nifty ways of packing up your clothes in a way which saves you space during your move. Vacuum packs and special storage bags can reduce heaps of clothes to small piles in just a matter of seconds, while charity shops are also more than happy to receive any donations of things that you no longer need. To help you out on the other end, try and make sure that you have a few essential clothing items in one separate moving box so that you can quickly access them as and when you need. When packing, also try to keep similar items together to try and save time when it comes to the dreaded unpacking. JewelleryWhen you’re packing up your jewellery it is important that you put it somewhere to safe to ensure that it doesn’t get lost in the melee. Necklace and bracelet chains should be carefully separated and laid out to avoid tangles, while stones should be wrapped to prevent any unwanted scratches or chips. If you’re using a removals firm or are worried about the safety of your expensive jewellery items then you may want to put them into a self storage locker for a few days until things settle down. This way you can be rest assured that your precious items won’t get mixed up with the wrapping or thrown out with the rubbish by mistake. CupboardsIf you have cupboards which you need to move with you then remove all items from inside to make them more manageable to move. Once you have done this, also remove any internal/external draws and shelves from the unit to ensure that they don’t fall or break during the removals process. Doors should be firmly tied shut to prevent them from swinging open and causing any damage to you or your other furniture, while sharp edges should always be protected with professional padding or other packing materials. If your cupboards are too large or heavy to move downstairs then taking them apart may be the only answer but remember to keep all of your screws and nuts safe in a clearly labelled container. BedsWhether your bed is a divan or frame, it is almost always easier to take it apart before you start on your move. Not only does this save room on the removals van but it also makes it much easier to manoeuvre down staircases and driveways. Divan beds tend to come apart down the middle with ease, while wooden or metal frames can be taken apart with a few basic tools. As with the cupboards, make sure that any parts are kept in a clearly labelled container to ensure that you can put everything back together ASAP after the removals process. Remember that the mattress itself should always be covered with a protective film to make sure that it is kept clean during the move.
