Moving: DIY or Call for the Moving Company?
Posted on 04/11/2014
If you have never went through moving house, you probably feel that it cannot be “that hard”. Truth be told though, lack of organization and proper planning can lead you to a disaster and it can really cause a lot of trouble so it is much better to be prepared for the big moment than to be taken by “surprise”. Hiring for a moving company can come with a lot of benefits and it can really help you a lot, but some of the people choose to do this themselves and only hire a van or truck and its driver. That’s perfectly fine too, but before you settle for anything, you should be 100% certain that your decision is correct. Which are the things to consider in both of the cases? Read on and find out more. Hiring a Moving CompanyA removal company can be absolutely great when it comes to taking the burden off your shoulders. They can really deal with lots of the tasks you would otherwise have to run on your own. Although they may cost you some money, the truth is that avoiding the stress connected to moving can be absolutely priceless. A moving company can help you not just move, but also pack and clean everything in your old house too. Some of the moving companies will also provide a wide range of other services as well and some of them will also help you with advice on how to prepare everything for their arrival too. Some companies will even provide you with coloured labels so that you can organize everything properly and make sure they move everything accordingly. Bear in mind that there’s a slight difference between removal companies and man and van hires. In most of the cases, the difference lies only in the fact that the first kind of service will come with larger trucks and probably with more men to help you out. However, also keep in mind the fact that they may be more expensive and, at times, you may not even need a larger truck. Usually, man and van hires come with two movers and for a normal-sized household that should be more than enough (especially if these people are well-trained professionals who actually know what they are doing). Doing It Yourself If you really know what you are doing, you can save some money and simply call in for a van and a driver to help you transport your things. This is especially OK if you don’t have lots of things to move, if you are not moving very far away and/or if you don’t have furniture to move too. If you do have furniture, do make sure you call in for some sort of help (even if they are just friends). Also, make sure you learn how to do this safely because otherwise someone could get badly injured and that’s the last thing you need on top of all the hassle moving comes with. You can also choose to DIY only some of the things. For instance, you can still have your man and van hire but you can also ask them to actually remove things from your home too. Packing and cleaning are things you can do on your own if you know how to be properly organized and if you really want to save money. However, keep in mind that this also means that you may need much more time at your disposal – and that’s where most of the people realize that hiring the pro’s is the best way to do things.
