If you have recently moved, or are planning a move soon, then you may be taking stock of what items or furniture you do or do not have. Maybe you have had a look around your home and decided that when you move you want a totally new look for your living room or perhaps you have decided that your new loft space will become a study area but you have no furniture to fill it.You could always go down the usual route of lifting up a catalogue and picking out a few items from that or you could try something new…Have you thought about going to an auction house? It is not just antiques and paintings that you can buy here, they have a vast array of items and you may end up buying an amazing addition for your home. If you decide to go to an auction you can both browse through a catalogue on the day and see what is for offer or you can have a wander round the rooms and see what catches your eye. If you are not sure what you are looking for then taking a walk around is usually the best option, that way you can see in front of you what is on offer and be more inclined to take a closer look. If you decide to buy something at auction then make sure you give it a really good going over, take a close look and inspect it for cracks, bumps, breaks, etc. some of these things add character to items but not if it is a gaping hole on the underside of a chair you are wanting to sit on! You then need to decide how much you are willing to pay. You don’t want to pay over the odds but you may need to pay a bit more due to its age, history or previous owner (perhaps Marilyn Monroe ate off the plate you like!) Once you are sure of your decision to buy and your top price then go for it, try not to get too excited and keeping going above your top budget but also don’t stop too quickly and lost out.Another good place to find furniture is large charity shops and warehouses. These places are able to house the larger pieces of furniture that cannot fit in the standard size shops. You can usually get a good bargain at these places but again make sure that you inspect the items that you are looking at very closely for any signs of damage. You may be able to pick up a chair or desk that needs a bit of tender loving care and you can see that some sanding and varnishing will restore it to its former glory. Once you have finished working on it you will get immense satisfaction every time you see the completed article taking pride of place in your home. There also websites that you can buy second furniture from as well as car boot sales and house clearance sales, it all depends on what is available at the time you are looking. Take your time is you are looking for that something special, it will turn up eventually and you can give it a new home and a new lease of life.
