Advice For Moving On Your Own

Posted on 06/01/2015

Moving house can be quite an onerous task at the best of times, but it can be even more difficult if you are moving by yourself. But just because you are living alone, doesn’t mean you have to move alone. It may seem daunting and expensive to hire removals services when you are just one person, but there are many options for small removals. Here are some tips to help you move when you are moving house on your own.  -    Hire man with a van services. These are much more cost efficient than hiring a full team of removalists from large companies. With this service you get a van that will be the right size for your personal belongings. You also get a man to help you load everything up. Two pairs of hands are better than one, especially when it comes to moving home!-    Hire a moving van if you are prepared to do the lifting, shifting and loading on your own. To hire a van for a few hours is an inexpensive option. It will be much more time efficient than doing multiple trips with a car to move everything.-    Consider removals and storage in the lead up to your move. If you have bulky furniture that may cause a problem on the moving day, you can always put it into storage prior to the move. Then once you are settled in the new place, take it out of storage.-    Ask friends and family for help. Put the word out that you are moving house and you never know how many people will want to help you. If you have friendly neighbours, they are likely to pitch in on your moving day. This will save you considerable back breaking manual labour. The main thing to keep in mind when organising your move is to be prepared. Because you are just one person, you really do have to take care of everything yourself. There are many ways you can stay ahead of the moving game and organise yourself without the stress of leaving it to the last minute. Some of these things include:-    Write a checklist ahead of time-    Go the supermarket and ask for old cardboard boxes for packing-    Make sure you have plenty of packing supplies such as newspaper, scissors, tape-    Contact man and van companies or van hire well in advance and arrange for a quote from a few companies to compare prices-    Implement a packing strategy and work room by room to stay organised, consider working with colour coordinated labels for rooms and boxes -    Start early and pack the things you use the least-    Leave out the essentials for the last box-    Pack a first night survival kit for when you are in the new homeWhen it comes to unpacking and unloading everything at the new house, there are also many options to make it easier for you. If you have hired a man with a van service, you will have assistance unloading and getting everything inside. If you have hired just a moving van, it is worth asking family and friends once again if they are able to help you unload everything. The first cup of tea you make in the new house might just be an offer of thanks and gratitude for the help in getting you set up!
