Your Removals Checklist - Are You Ready?

Posted on 10/09/2014

When it comes to the few days before the removal, it is easy to be lulled in to a sense that everything is fine, but there can always be that little bit of panic in the back your mind that you may have forgotten something. In these cases, you need only to refer to your moving checklist, to ensure that all is well and good. Whilst all removals are different, you need to ensure that you are able to reduce the likelihood of missing anything out by having a few pointers towards making your own checklist in advance of the removal itself. If you can get this plan together, then you will have an easy and simple point of reference for ensuring that nothing has been missed out, or has gone wrong. The fact of the matter is that there is nothing that cannot be sorted by decent prior planning, and it is at this point that you will be able to get your things on order, and to ensure that you are not at risk of missing out on anything important. For a start, you need to think about the packing. You will likely be aware of what packing you have left to do at the end of the period leading up to the removal, and it is often best to have a plan as to what is going in which boxes, so that you can ensure that nothing is left to chance at the last minute. You will still be using things in the house right up to the moment that you move, so have the boxes for them ready, and ensure that nothing gets forgotten.Organizing things so that your new place is up and running as soon as possible is essential. Ideally you will have had a chance to get the communications for the new place sorted, with phone and internet being covered before the move date. If you can’t get in to the new place to sort out the internet, then it may be worth asking the previous owners as to what they have been using, and looking into continuing with the same supplier. This will also give you the chance to ask them as to how good the service was etcetera. Ensuring that you are able to get the postal redirection set up for the day before you move will mean that you don’t have to worry about missing out on anything that is delivered to you on the day of the move, and that it will all be at the new place when you arrive. You will need to also ensure that your energy bills are shut off for the moment that you leave the place, and are ready to start up at the new place, so that you can use the house properly! You will find that there is a huge amount that you can do in advance to ensure that your first night is comfortable, so make sure that you have an essentials box ready for when you arrive. Many removals go on a little later than anticipated, and it may be rather late when you finish unloading the van and have said goodbye to the removals company. In this case, you will not want to spend ages searching through boxes for specific things. Have a box with bedding and spare clothes, as well as a kettle and other essentials for keeping yourselves warm and comfortable. The menus for a couple of local food delivery places will be pretty useful as well!
