Cleaning for the Move -- How to Get Rid of Unsightly Stains and Pungent Smells

Posted on 09/12/2010

Getting the house cleaned before you move is just one of the most annoying things about relocating. The biggest challenge you will have to face is removing stubborn stains and unsightly marks from walls, floors and other surfaces. When cleaning it is best to put together cleaning solutions and tools in one container. Keep this container handy to save some time and effort in cleaning. It does not take a professional cleaner to remove awkward stains and marks inside your home. In fact, home solutions available in the market are enough to get rid of blots and unpleasant smells. Scuff marks on woodwork are caused by shoes, wheels and other rubber materials bumping against hard surfaces. You can easily remove these marks by simply rubbing a pencil eraser against the blemished area. Toothpaste are also ideal for ink or crayon stains although you may want to test it on a smaller spot first to make sure it is safe for the surface you are working on. Baking soda can do wonders in your home. Not only does it help whiten the whites, it can also get rid of the damp smell without leaving an overpowering scent. In using any type of solution, the general rule is to try them first on less conspicuous spots. Never mix cleaning solutions as most of them contain ammonia or bleach which may produce fatal vapors if mixed together.
